The substrate changes everything: hydrophobicity, protein conditioning, EPS architecture, antimicrobial penetration, even which species end up dominant. An MIC value generated on a polystyrene plate may say very little about what your antimicrobial will do once a biofilm has matured on a catheter or an implant capsule.
